Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity 

The University of the Virgin Islands was awarded a five-year, $1.3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), as part of a White House strategy to strengthen cybersecurity expertise in America. The UVI CECOR program’s main objective is to develop future cybersecurity experts with the support of the Consortium’s K-20 education pipeline within the Virgin Islands.

With the guidance of the Minority Serving Institutions Partnerships Program of the U.S. Department of Energy, National Nuclear Security Administration, UVI has become one of seventeen HBCU partners in the K-20 Cybersecurity Workforce Development Program. UVI also has a partnership with Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Members of the Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity Opportunities & Research (CECOR) program will include students in middle school and high school, as well as the University of the Virgin Islands undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty. Members will acquire specialized knowledge and critical skills in order to compete in a field that is of growing demand.

The staff of the Consortium Enabling Cybersecurity Opportunities & Research program consist of Dr. Marc Boumedine, Dr. Alan Lewit, Dr. Jason Lewis and Ms. Marlene Parrott-Gokool. They confidently believe that this program will strengthen students understanding of the importance of cybersecurity.
